This is a Vietnam-era Basic Training aid, used to condition soldiers to carrying real rifles without the hassle and accountability of issuing real steel weapons. This particular example is in excellent condition for what it was used for - getting the hell beat out of it basic training - appearing to only be missing the sling swivels and the forward assist.
